Tantalising. Visual. Narrative.
Having a picky palate never stopped Brian from loving food in his own bizarre, unique way. Photography is his way of extending that appreciation for what is served on a plate, and that has since translated into what he believes to be his passion, as he dabbled in the professional field of food photography during his university years before advancing to pursue a freelance career as of 2020, through the opportunity of working with multiple clients over the year, despite an ongoing pandemic.
When it comes to capturing food as a subject matter, Brian is especially intrigued by its story, or a certain narrative that a brand wishes to tell through the food and/or drinks it serves, and this translates into how Brian approaches his photography professionally, by working closely with his clients to ensure that a common visual theme is achieved, while also attempting to push creative boundaries to produce works that not only satiate one’s tastebuds, but also leaves them with intrigue towards what a brand is trying to say. Majoring in Fine Art Photography (BA, Hons) at Nanyang Technological University has helped hone and further develop his appreciation and approach towards creating visuals that bear meaning beyond the exterior outlook. His course of study eventually amalgamated into his project “For Here or Takeaway” (2020), which ultimately set the direction of his approach to photography. When he’s not capturing food, Brian turns to portraiture and film photography to extend on his photographic practice. On other days, he enjoys sharing food reviews on The Fussy Foodie.
